Abstract

Abstract Hydrophilic, water insoluble, organic solvent soluble polymers of hydroxyalkyl methacrylate or acrylate of high purity are prepared in water using hydroxyalkyl methacrylate or acrylate monomer having not over 0.035 weight percent of alkylene glycol dimethacrylate or diacrylate. The polymers have high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution and are useful for medical applications, e.g., as a burn dressing.
