Abstract
Abstract Catheters and such like medical apparatus having an outer wall of a polymeric material, in particular rubber or silicone rubber, are initially cleaned by exposure to a gas discharge in a vacuum chamber for the purpose of coating with silver, and they are then coated by sputtering consecutively with a metal having a high affinity for oxygen, in particular chromium, followed by a noble metal having a lower affinity for oxygen than silver, in particular gold, and finally with silver.
