Abstract The appliance is, in particular, a urethal catheter and has a coating of at least one substance which releases microbicidal metal ions, in the form of a metal, preferably gold, silver or copper, or of a metal compound, and of a substance which promotes the release of metal ions and does not contain the same metal or the same metal compound, preferably elemental carbon or titanium.
