Vascular graft
Abstract
A vascular graft (10) of synthetic material comprises a tubular member (18) having a braided inner layer and an elastic outer covering layer (30) or the braided layer (12) comprises a plurality of interwoven groups (14a-14h) of filaments (16a-16g). The filaments can be constructed either with metal or with plastic. The elastic external coating can be constituted either by a sleeve made of treated organic material such as collagen, treated plastic, a liquid deposit of organic material either plastic, or a combination of organic and plastic materials. The inlet ports for the flow (20a) and outlet for the flow (20b) of the tubular member (18) form an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the graft and are reinforced either by adhesion of the filaments on the contiguous filaments either by adhesion of a filamentous periphery in a single endless strand on the orifice in addition to reinforcement by the material of external coating. Likewise, the synthetic vascular graft may have a braided and smooth orifice in the tubular organ parallel to the longitudinal axis. In addition, the synthetic vascular graft may have an increasing or decreasing neck.
