The device of claim 1 , wherein the mechanism is a screw.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the first and second anchoring members defines a lumen through which the elongate member is configured to extend.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the first and second anchoring members includes a channel configured to receive the mechanism.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
The device of claim 5 , wherein the mechanism is configured to move within the channel between a first position in which the mechanism is not engaged with the elongate member and a second position in which the mechanism engages the elongate member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 39 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the first and second anchoring members is configured to be affixed to the elongate member after the elongate member is positioned with respect to the heart chamber.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second anchoring members is substantially circular.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 15 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein the elongate member includes a plurality of filaments.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 15 words
The device of claim 9 , wherein the filaments are made of a polymeric material.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 13 words
The device of claim 9 , wherein the filaments form a braided structure.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 22 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein the elongate member has a diameter of between about 0.005 inches and about 0.035 inches.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 24 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second anchoring members is configured to articulate relative to the elongate member.

Dependent Claim 26 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second anchoring members is at least partially covered with a tissue ingrowth promoting material.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 31 words
The device of claim 1 , wherein a length of the elongate member extending within the heart chamber and between the first and second anchoring members is configured to be adjustable.
Claim 17
Independent Claim 108 words
A method of placing an elongate member transverse a left ventricle of a heart, the method comprising the steps of: placing the elongate member transverse the left ventricle so that a first end of the elongate member extends through a wall of the left ventricle between the two papillary muscles, and a second end of the elongate member extends through a heart wall; and placing a first anchoring member and a second anchoring member external the heart, the first and second anchoring members being attached respectively to the first and second ends of the elongate member to maintain a position of the elongate member transverse the left ventricle.
Claim 18
Independent Claim 108 words
A method of placing an elongate member transverse a left ventricle of a heart, the method comprising the steps of: placing the elongate member transverse the left ventricle so that a first end of the elongate member extends through a wall of the left ventricle between the two papillary muscles, and a second end of the elongate member extends through a heart wall; and placing a first anchoring member and a second anchoring member external the heart, the first and second anchoring members being attached respectively to the first and second ends of the elongate member to maintain a position of the elongate member transverse the left ventricle.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 54 words
