Abstract
Abstract The invention comprises the use of helical propellers as pumping mechanisms, in various sizes and configurations, to improve upon present devices involving the circulation of liquid solutions between gas exchange mechanisms and subjects to which the liquid solutions are delivered. These improvements include the use of helical propellers as the primary source of fluid propulsion within the system, the use of helical propellers for supplementary fluid propulsion at points of high resistance or low pressure, and the use of reversible-flow helical propellers to achieve bi-directional variable rate flow through single lumen conduits.
