Abstract
Abstract Disclosed is a device for delivering tissue adhesives to surface which covers or surrounds a lumen, cavity or organ, or potential lumen or cavity, within a human or animal. Also disclosed is a method of delivering tissue adhesives to a surface which covers or surrounds a lumen, cavity or organ, or potential lumen or cavity, within a human or animal. The method is particularly suited to sealing perforations in vascular walls, such as after arterial access for Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), Percutaneous Coronary Angiography and Percutaneous Coronary Atherectomy and similar diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim
110 words
A method of performing an intravascular procedure in a human through a vascular perforation and inhibiting bleeding from the perforation following the procedure, comprising the steps of: perforating a blood vessel in the human to provide access to the vascular system; introducing instrumentation into the blood vessel through the perforation; performing treatment with the instrumentation; withdrawing the instrumentation from the blood vessel; inhibiting blood flow through the blood vessel having the perforation; exposing the blood vessel at the perforation; applying at adhesive to the exterior of the blood vessel wall in the vicinity of the perforation, thereby sealing the perforation; and permitting resumption of blood flow in the blood vessel.
Claim 2
Independent Claim

A method as in claim 2, wherein the artery in the perforating step comprises the femoral artery.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
17 words
A method as in claim 2, wherein the artery in the perforating step comprises a brachial artery.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
44 words
A method as in claim 1, wherein the exposing step comprises positioning the distal end of a tubular introduction canula adjacent the vascular wall and surrounding the perforation, wherein the canula has an inner cross-sectional area larger than a cross-sectional area of the perforation.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
52 words
A method as in claim 1, wherein the adhesive is selected from the group consisting of methyl cyanoacrylate, ethyl cyanoacrylate, n-propyl cyanoacrylate, isopropyl cyanoacrylate, n-butyl cyanoacrylate, isobutyl cyanoacrylate, n-amyl cyanoacrylate, isoamyl cyanoacrylate, 3-acetoxypropyl cyanoacrylate, 2-methoxypropyl cyanoacrylate, 3-chloropropyl cyanoacrylate, benzyl cyanoacrylate, phenyl cyanoacrylate, alkenyl cyanoacrylate, butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, alkoxyalky 2-cyanoacrylates, fluorinated 2-cyanoacrylates and combinations thereof.
