Abstract

Abstract A suturing needle in combination with an anchor. The anchor is molded from medical grade plastic. The needle is made of surgical grade steel and is formed in an arcuate shape. One end of the needle has a point. The opposite end has an off-set section which is insert-molded with the anchor. The off-set section maintains the anchor and needle together. The body is formed with a pair of square cavities whose axes are coaxial. The cavities receive square projections on a manipulating tool.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 94 words
A needle in combination with an anchor, the combination being for use in suturing and comprising: a body molded from medical grade plastic; a needle made of surgical grade steel and formed in an arcuate shape, one end of the needle being formed with a point and the opposite end being embedded in said body; and a pair of spaced apart cavity means each having at least one planar surface and respectively extending into the body from the surface thereof for use in being engaged by a corresponding planar surface on a manipulating tool.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 94 words
A needle in combination with an anchor, the combination being for use in suturing and comprising: a body molded from medical grade plastic; a needle made of surgical grade steel and formed in an arcuate shape, one end of the needle being formed with a point and the opposite end being embedded in said body; and a pair of spaced apart cavity means each having at least one planar surface and respectively extending into the body from the surface thereof for use in being engaged by a corresponding planar surface on a manipulating tool.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
The combination of claim 1 wherein each cavity of said pair is square in cross section.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 112 words
A needle in combination with an anchor, the combination being for use in suturing and comprising: a body molded from medical grade plastic; a needle made of surgical grade steel and formed in an arcuate shape, one end of the needle being formed with a point and the opposite end having at least one off-set section which is embedded in said body having been insert molded therewith, the off-set section maintaining the body and needle together; and the body being formed with first and second cavities each extending into the body from the surface thereof and being disposed on opposite sides of the body with the axis of the cavities being coaxial.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 112 words
A needle in combination with an anchor, the combination being for use in suturing and comprising: a body molded from medical grade plastic; a needle made of surgical grade steel and formed in an arcuate shape, one end of the needle being formed with a point and the opposite end having at least one off-set section which is embedded in said body having been insert molded therewith, the off-set section maintaining the body and needle together; and the body being formed with first and second cavities each extending into the body from the surface thereof and being disposed on opposite sides of the body with the axis of the cavities being coaxial.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
The anchor of claim 3 wherein said first and second cavities, in cross section, have a shape which includes at least one planar section.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
The combination of claim 3 wherein said first and second cavities each are square in cross section.
