Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 106 words
A method for inhibiting deposits of scale, sludge, and other foulants in aqueous systems, said method consisting essentially of adding to the said systems 0.01 to 500 ppm of a composition selected from the group consisting of (A) water-soluble copolymers of styrene sulfonic acid with another polymerizable monoethylenic compound, and their water-soluble salts or (B) mixture of polystyrene sulfonic acid with an acrylic polymer whose polymer chain structure comprises units having the following formula: ##STR2## wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of H or CH 3 and R 2 is selected from the group consisting of H or COOH, and their water-soluble salts.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
Method according to claim 1 in which the composition is a copolymer of styrene sulfonic acid with acrylic or methacrylic acid, including their water-soluble salts.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
Method according to claim 1 in which the composition is a mixture of polystyrene sulfonic acid with polyacrylic or polymethacrylic acid, and their water-soluble salts.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
Method according to claim 2 in which the styrene sulfonic acid moiety is about 2 to 98% by weight of the copolymer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
Method according to claim 4 in which the copolymer has a molecular weight in the range of about 800 to 7,000,000.
Claim 7
