Abstract

Abstract Long-acting capsules or tablets containing materials for masking odors of the oral cavity or for introducing medications into the oral cavity or for introducing medications into the oral cavity in human beings and other animals and comprising suitable pharmaceutically acceptable odor masking or medicament substances in encapsulated form and present in a capsule, tablet or other article of such size and shape or of such material as to allow the article to reside for prolonged periods of time of at least one hour in adjacent contact with the oral mucosa.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
A PRODUCT FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL FLAVOR RELEASE OF ODORMASKING FLAVORING MATERIALS IN THE ORAL CAVITY OF HUMANS COMPRISING A MULTIPLICITY OF SALIVA SOLUBILIZED MICRO-CAPSULES, EACH MICROCAPSULE HAVING AN ENCAPSULATING SURFACE ENCAPSULATING A PREDETERMINED QUANTITY OF ESSENTIAL FLAVORING OIL OR COMBINATIONS THEREOF, THE VARIOUS MICROCAPSULES HAVING A DIFFERENT COATINGS MATERIALS AND THICKNESS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE DIFFERENTIAL FLAVOR RELEASE OF ODOR-MASKING FLAVORING MATERIAL OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, AND A PHARMACEUTICALLY ACCEPTABLE ORAL ADHESIVE VEHICLE COVERING AT LEAST A PORTION OF THE SURFACE OF EACH OF SAID MICROCAPSULES TO PROVIDE SAID MICROCAPSULES WITH PROLONGED ORAL CAVITY RESIDENCE TIME FLAVORING LASTINGS AS LONG AS THE SALIVA IN THE MOUTH DISSOLVES THE SALIVA-SOLUBLE MICROCAPSULES, THEREBY RELEASING THE FLAVOR CONTENTS UNTIL WASHED AWAY BY THE SECRETIONS OF THE ORAL MUCOSA OR UNTIL REMOVED BY THE USER FROM THE MOUTH.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 135 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 74 words
An article of manufacture comprising removable parchment backed adhesive patch means adapted to be gently peeled from the mouth for suitable disposal after previously being gently pressed, with backing previously removed, to reside in the oral cavity of a human or other animal and including, for gradual and prolonged release over a period of time, of a composition as defined in claim 1, of odor-masking flavor materials in saliva-soluble microcapsules covered with oral adhesive.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 101 words
A process for introducing immediate and gradual differential flavor release of saliva-soluble, micro-encapsulated odor-masking flavor substances into the oral cavities of salivating human beings and other animals, comprising the steps of: a. Introducing into the salivating oral cavity and gently pressing against the oral mucosa in the location desired a plurality of adhesive-covered saliva-soluble microencapsulated odor-masking flavor substances as defined in claim 1, which will reside in the oral cavity without dissolution for a period of time; and b. Continuing to salivate, thereby gradually releasing, during a period of at least one hour, an effective quantity of such odor-masking flavoring material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A process as set forth in claim 3, wherein said odor-masking material is one or more essential oils.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 145 words
A tablet or small, flattish piece of solified substance of flavored oral adhesive vehicle for releasing a relatively uniform quantity of saliva-soluble, microcapsules of odor-masking flavor substances as defined in claim 1, into the oral cavity of a human being or other animal over a prolonged period of time, said tablet or flattish piece comprising: a. An elongated oral adhesive vehicle body; b. Said body having at least one face having a concave curvature and adapted to fit comfortably along the upper surface of the gums at the side of the mouth; c. A superficial layer of a first non-encapsulated flavoring material to provide substantially immediate release of odor-masking flavoring material into the oral cavity; and d. An inner core of a multiplicity of said saliva-soluble microcapsules and a flavor material for providing substantially more prolonged release of odor-masking flavoring material into the oral cavity.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 59 words
An article as set forth in claim 5, wherein said oral adhesive vehicle contains saliva-soluble flavored microcapsules whose surface coating is principally pharmaceutically acceptable shellac having essential flavoring oil admixed therein and wherein some of said saliva-soluble flavor microcapsules comprise a material selected from the group consisting of ethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose and hydroxypropylcellulose having essential flavoring oil admixed therein.
