Abstract

Abstract A conically-shaped cloth bag having a plurality of rings made of flexible plugged tubes sewed into the bag in parallel planes spaced along the bag axis, beginning with the truncated conical apex thereof by amounts corresponding to the height of the desired final filter assembly. A plurality of pairs of cloth support tabs are sewed at opposite ends of a diameter of each sewed ring where each tab has a center line falling in a common plane passing through the bag axis and a reinforcing grommet with an aperture therethrough having its center in the common plane. The bag includes a pair of rod-supporting gaskets having holes positioned approximately in said plane with the line passing through the gasket holes being spaced from the largest ring plane by an amount corresponding to the uniform spacing of said ring planes. The filter assembly is constructed by turning the bag inside-out and supporting said rings in a common plane by passing a rod through said grommets to support said sewed rings by means of the supporting tabs attached thereto.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 166 words
A filter assembly comprising the combination of: a conically-shaped filter bag; a plurality of rings having successively increasing diameters sewed into said filter bag for defining planes of support for said filter bag, the smallest diameter ring being sewed at the truncated conical apex of the filter bag and successively larger diameter rings being sewed into said filter bag at spaced parallel planes along the conical axis of the filter bag, the centers of said plurality of rings lying approximately along said conical axis; a support tab sewed onto said filter bag at the diametricallyopposed sides of each ring of said plurality of rings, the tabs lying in a plane passing through said conical axis; a pair of rod-supporting gaskets attached to said filter bag at opposite sides thereof and lying in said plane containing the support tabs and passing through the conical axis of the filter bag; and rod means engaging each support tab and passing through said rod-supporting gaskets for supporting said filter bag.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 166 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 39 words
A filter assembly according to claim 1 further comprising a reinforcing grommet carried by each said support tab for receiving said rod means, said reinforcing grommet defining a hole therethrough extending within said plane passing through said conical axis.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 125 words
The filter assembly defined in claim 2 further comprising: wire-mesh separators having successively increasing diameters; the largest diameter of said wire-mesh separators having a diameter slightly larger than the largest sewed rings in said filter bag for pullinG up the largest sewed ring inside the largest wire-mesh separator until the tab holes associated with said largest ring are approximately aligned with said rod-supporting gasket holes, the filter assembly being further characterized by inserting successively smaller diameters of said wire-mesh separators into said filter bag and pulling up an associated sewed ring and aligning the tabs of each ring with said gasket holes until all mesh separators and rings have been aligned and the grommet centers of all of said tabs lie along a common line.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 40 words
The filter assembly defined in claim 3 wherein said rod means engaging the pairs of support tabs is further defined as a supporting rod passing through all of said tab holes and said gaskets to support said plurality of rings.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
The filter assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said rings are constructed of flexible tubes held in the form of said ring by plugs.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 25 words
The filter assembly defined in claim 1 wherein said support tabs are made of cloth with an aperture therethrough established by mounting a grommet therein.
