Abstract
Abstract DISCLOSED IS A PROCESS FOR BONDING PLASTIC LINERS IN METAL PIPE JOINTS. THE BORE OF THE PIPE AND THE EXTERIOR OF A TUBULAR LINER ARE COATED WITH A THERMAL ADHESIVE, THE LINER INSERTED INTO THE PIPE BORE, AND THE LINER HEATED INTERNALLY BY PASSING STEAM THROUGH THE LINER UNDER PRESSURE. THE FLOW OF STEAM THROUGH THE LINER IS CONTROLLED TO CAUSE HEATING OF THE LINER TO PROGRESS AXIALLY FROM ONE END OF THE PIPE. THE LINER IS THEN EXPANDED TO INTIMATELY CONTACT AND BOND TO THE BORE OF THE PIPE BY PRESSURIZING THE LINER WHILE HOT.
