Abstract COLOURED COLLOID PATTERNS ARE PRODUCED BY IMAGEWISE EXPOSING A HYDROPHILIC COLOURED COLLOID LAYER CONTAINING A DIAZONIUM COMPOUND AND TREATING THE EXPOSED COLLOID LAYER WITH AN ALKALINE SUBSTANCE THAT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DIAZONIUM SALT LEFT IN THE UNEXPOSED PORTIONS OF THE LAYER EFFECTS A SELECTIVE HARDENING OF THE COLLOID LAYER IN THE UNEXPOSED PORTIONS.
