Abstract AN IMPROVED AMSS TRANSFER DEVICE OF THE TYPE WHEREIN DIALYSIS OF A GAS AND/OR A LIQUID IS ACHIEVED BY WAY OF DIFFUSION THROUGH A PLURALITY OF INDIVIDUAL PERMEABLE CAPILLARIES. IN ONE ASPECT OF THE INVENTION, IMPROVED MASS TRANSFER IS OBTAINED BY EMPLOYING MEANS TO MAINTAIN THE CAPILLARIES IN A FIXED ELONGATED STATE DURING THE DIALYSIS OPERATION. IN ANOTHER ASPECT, IMPROVED AMSS TRANSFER IS OBTAINED BY EMPLOYING MEANS TO SELECTIVELY ADJUST THE ELONGATION OF THE CAPILLARIES DURING THE OPERATION.
