Abstract
Abstract IN THE PRESENT INVENTION A POLYMER CONTAINING FUNCTIONAL GROUPS IS REACTED WITH A POLYVALENT METAL CATION IN SOLUTION TO FORM A SALT OF THE POLYMER. PREFERABLY THE POLYMER SALT IS SEPARATED FROM THE SOLUTION BY FREEZEDRYING WHICH PARTICULARLY ENHANCES THE ACTIVITY OF THE SALT. THE POLYMER SALT IS USEFUL FOR THERAPEUTIC PURPOSE SINCE WHEN CONTACTED WITH BILE ACID CONJUGATES, IT BINDS THE CONJUGATE AND PREVENTS REABSORPTION OF BILE ACID BY THE SMALL INTESTINE. PREFERABLY THE SALT OF THE POLYMER CONTAINS AN ENTERIC COATING.
