High density sintered tini alloy
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled alloy contg. a specified amount of Ni and having a low concn. of oxygen by molding a powdery mixture contg. Ti powder and Ni powder as principal starting materials and by sintering it at a proper temp. in vacuum or in an inert gas. CONSTITUTION:A powdery mixture contg. Ti powder and <=48atom% or >=52atom% Ni powder as principal starting materials is molded and sintered at >=1,100 deg.C in vacuum or in an inert gas such as Ar. Powders of Al, Sn, Zr, Mo, V, Nb, Ta, Mn, Cr, Fe, Co, Cu, Si and W may be substituted for part of the Ni powder. A high density sintered TiNi alloy having >=6.1g/cc sintering density close to 100% true density ratio is easily obtd. Since the powdery starting materials are not required to be made especially fine, contamination by oxidation is avoided during mixing, so the resulting sintered alloy has a low concn. of oxygen and high plastic workability.
