Impact-resistant polystyrene resin and its production
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin having excellent and balanced impact resistance and rigidity, by the radical polymerization of a styrene monomer in the presence of an impact modifier such as a polybutadiene rubber containing specific kinds of butadiene bonds at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin is produced by the radical polymerization of (A) 98-80wt% styrene monomer or its mixture with a copolymerizable unsaturated compound (e.g. acrylonitrile) in bulk, bulk and suspension, or solution, in the presence of (B) 2-20wt%, preferably 3-12wt% polybutadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber or isoprene-butadiene copolymer rubber wherein the content of the trans-1,4 bond in the butadiene unit is 60-90mol%, cis-1,4 bond is 10-30mol% and 1,2-vinyl bond is 2-10%.
