Abstract

Abstract 943,512. Heating appliances; eye shades. W. DUBILIER, and E. G. COTTON. Sept. 20, 1961, No. 33699/61. Heading A5R. A heating mask is shaped to cover the eyes and the region of the sinuses below them and incorporates an electric heating element 13 in the parts covering the region of the sinuses. The electric heating element 13 comprises resistance wire or tape sewn to or threaded into a layer of flexible insulating material, e.g. flannel, linen or lint. The element is placed between layers of flexible insulating material which are fixed together around their edges by binding tape or plastic paste to prevent fraying. Additional layers 17, 18 are secured along the top edge of the mask and may be superimposed on the mask on one or both sides as desired to reduce the heating effect on the skin and/or the amount of heat radiated from the mask. The heating element is supplied with 25-30 volts from a mains supply through a transformer or a dry battery. A time switch or fuse may be incorporated in the circuit of the heating element.
