Improvements in or relating to ceramic insulating bodies
Abstract
Abstract A ceramic insulating body comprises essentially titania, magnesia and zirconia, the zirconia content being from 0.25 to 5 per cent. of the titania content and the magnesia content being from 0.1 to 25 per cent of the titania content, the magnesia content being at least the stoichiometric equivalent of the zirconia content as MgZrO3. The composition may also contain one or more of the oxides of calcium, strontium and barium as their respective titanates equivalent singly or collectively to not more than 25 per cent of the body weight. The magnesia and zirconia may be added as oxides, oxide-producing compounds such as carbonates, or as preferred magnesium zirconate, and the oxides of calcium, strontium and barium as oxides, oxide producing compounds or preformed titanates. Up to 3 per cent. of mobyledic or tungstic oxides or similar small amounts of alumina or silica or both, as talc, soapstone or bentonite, may be added. Specification 543,021 is referred to.
