Improved method for the manufacture of metal articles having portions of conical or conoidal form
Abstract
Abstract 436,768. Making cupped articles and hollow-ware. BERGEDORFER EISENWERK AKT.-GES. ASTRA-WERKE, Bergedorf, Hamburg, Germany.-(Assignees of Aktiebolaget Separator ; 8, Fleminggatan, Stockholm) Jan. 10, 1935, No. 864. Convention date, March 14, 1934. Addition to 344,473. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Spinning.-The invention described in the parent Specification is modified to include the production by spinning of conical metal articles (other than discs for centrifugal separators) from blanks of flat or other form, the ratio between the thicknesses of each spun element and the element of the blank from which it is produced being substantially equal to the ratio between the sines of the angles between the elements and the axis. In working a blank of stainless steel of diameter D, Fig. 1, a flange 3 may be left which is then formed into a bead, or the spinning may be continued to the edge of the blank, a bead then being formed as shown in the lower part of the Figure. A blank 9, Fig. 3, of conical or flat shape is spun to produce the top 10 of a milk container, thickened portions 6, 8 being left. A tool 13, Fig. 6, is guided along the surface of a former 11 in a straight line by a screwed shaft 14 engaging non-rotatably a screw-threaded bore of a gear 19. A tool 23, Fig. 7, is guided over the curved surface of a former 11 by a member 25, the drive of the screwed shaft 26 being effected through a universal joint. The blank may be spun inside a hollow former when the operation is effected from the larger to the smaller part of the article.
