An Electrical Transmission Dynamometer.
Abstract
Abstract 4669. Drysdale, C. V. Feb. 24. Phase - differences, measuring.-In a transmission dynamometer of the kind in which an alternator is placed on either side of an elastic coupling connecting the two parts of a shaft, the alternators giving equal electric pressures, the power transmitted by the shaft can be represented by the difference in phase of the two pressures, and indicated by a moving-coil instrument having a laminated field magnet wound with one or more coils of fine wire, which may be connected to the two alternators. Or the fixed coils may be connected to one alternator and the movable coil to the other. The movable coil may carry a recording-pen. Another form of instrument is shown in Fig. 4, the terminals of the two alternators being connected to the coil C<5>, C<6> of a laminated magnet acting on a spring-controlled metal disk D ; the controlling-spring may be replaced by a damping magnet, the disk being allowed to revolve, to integrate the mechanical power transmitted over any period.
