A Mechanical Device for Fixing Tracheotomy Tubes in the Windpipes of Horses and other Animals.
Abstract
Abstract 11,277. Wells, J., and Wells, J. May 14. Tracheotomy, appliances for.-A tracheal tube, particularly intended for horses and having no detachable parts, consists of a flanged oval-shaped tube a, on which are hinged at r, s enveloping flaps c', c<2>; these flaps are pivoted on short arms connected by links m, n to a cress-piece h, which is worked up and down by a left-handed screw d guided by holes in cross-pieces f, g. Rotation of the screw in a left-handed direction draws down the bar h and the links m, n so bringing the flaps into the position shown and allowing insertion of the tube into the incision in the windpipe ; turning the screw to the right then opens out the flaps and prevents the withdrawal of the tube.
