Catheter
Abstract
Abstract 1,093,867. Catheters. CORDIS CORPORATION. Nov. 15, 1966 [Jan. 17, 1966], No. 51106/66. Heading A5R. A catheter for surgical drainage has a flexible tip portion curved in the shape of a hook, the portion of the wall of the tip portion lying on the inside of the hook being perforated. The catheter may be formed of silicone rubber and the perforations 8 on the inside of the hook may be circular or oval in crosssection. The end 4 of the catheter may be closed as shown, or open. During insertion in the body the catheter may be temporarily straightened with a stainless steel stylet 12 (Figure 2, not shown) having a diameter slightly smaller than the lumen of the catheter so as to allow fluid flow. The stylet may have a roughened surface to prevent its sticking to the catheter. The catheter may be used for drainage of the bladder &c., or may be imptanted for the continuous drainage of cerebrospinal fluid from a cerebral ventricle via a jugular vein to the atrium of the heart.
