Polymer particles comprising a surface layer containing aromatic aldehyde reactive groups, enabling amino biological ligands to be bound by covalency, their preparation and their use
Abstract
Abstract Polymer particles of dimensions smaller than 1 micrometre, characterised in that they include a polymer core substantially free from aldehyde groups, and a polymer surface layer containing substituents of formula (I> -CHZ1(Z2) (I> in which Z1 and Z2 together denote =O or a group =YL, Y denoting either a =N- group bonded to the CH group via its double bond, or an iminium cation, and L denoting a residue of an amino ligand of diagrammatic formula L-NH2 or L=NH, or else Z1 denotes -NH-L and Z2 denotes -H, L being the residue of the said ligand, and in that the said substituents of formula (I) are covalently bonded directly to an aromatic ring present in repeat units of the polymer; their preparation by emulsion polymerisation, and their use for covalent binding of amino biological ligands and in the investigation of partners of the said ligands.
