Lock nut for screw - has double, internal, hexagonal key drive hole to facilitate complete dismantling
Abstract
Abstract The locking screw comprises an upper screwed part (a) which is counterbored to accommodate a standard hexagonal key and a lower screwed part (b) which is counterbored for a hexagonal key of smaller size than that in the upper part. The two halves are connected by a section (c) of reduced diameter. The screw is tightened using the larger, upper, hexagonal drive key. At the extremity of its travel a continuation of the turning effort will produce a shearing torque (in the plane "S"), the magnitude of which is determined by the thickness of the section (c). After shearing the whole of the turning action acts on the upper part only and deformation (7) takes place locking the two elements.
