Non-surgical treatment of tachycardia - using a probe for interruption of the His bundle
Abstract
Abstract A probe for the non-surgical interruption of His's bundle in man has two electrodes for detection and/or stimulation at one end, a flexible guide, opening into a gradual orifice in the wall of the probe next to the electrodes which takes a hollow metal needle which can be inserted into cardiac tissue. This hollow needle is connected at one end to a flexible conduit running the length of the probe, at the other end to a source of necrotising substance, e.g. a halogenated acetic acid, phenol, or a cryogenic material. Used for treatment of auricular tachycardia thus obviating the need for open heart surgery.
