Disposable filter for intravenous liquid treatment - having rectangular plastic housing with microporous membrane
Abstract
Abstract Gas liquid filter unit has two shells with depressions in them and surrounding flanges into which are set two semicircular openings for inlet and outlet. When the two sections are put together them form a housing and the openings become circular to accept pipes. A third member is mounted between the flanges the centre of which is a filter membrane. An inlet pipe is mounted between the upper shell and the the membrane. An outlet pipe is mounted between the lower lower shell and the membrane. The outer edge of the membrane, the flanges and the pipes are tightly joined together. A vent hole with a hydrophobic filter is provided on the upper shell. Used esp. for the filtration of liquids being prepared for intravenous treatments of patients to remove bacillae and solid particles which would cause blood poisoning. Obviously these must be very fine pore and completely sterile. Using the construction described, a low cost filter suitable for mass prodn. so that it can be thrown away after use can be produced.
