Catheter insertion system - uses auxiliary fluid injected in catheter and forming propulsion jets
Abstract
Abstract The system is for use with a tubular catheter in a vascular passage. After it has been inserted in the passage it is propelled along it by injecting auxiliary fluid inside it. Typically, the end of the catheter can be closed and a large number of micro-orifices formed at the sides behind the closed and inserted end. These are so angled that injected fluid is discharged in the reverse direction, thus thrusting the end forward. The catheter can be inserted via a guide inserted in the passage concerned. the guide is joined to a reservoir receiving a variable pressure liquid of a higher pressure than the vascular passage pressure.
