Intervertebral prosthesis
Abstract
Abstract The implant comprises an elongated, form-elastic body which in the force-free state adopts the shape of a spiral (S). The spiral body has a rectangular cross-section and has a cylindrical centre piece (1) in its centre. The form-elastic body locates on the centre piece, via a transition member (2) of reduced width, in order to produce a spiral without intermediate spaces in the force-free state. The elastic body comprises material which can be sterilised, the deformation properties of which correspond to those of the disc to be replaced. The material is preferably polyurethane or a polyurethane-silicone mixture. The body in spiral form assumes an outer diameter, which fills out completely the shape within the annulus fibrosus. The outer diameter is preferably in the range between 23 and 25.5 mm. The body has a height preferably of 5 to 10 mm and the spiral has preferably five windings.
