Abstract

Abstract The thread (1) has a flexible section with two ends. The lower (2) fastening part on the thread first end has a hollow cylinder (5) with a continuous hole (7) through which a surgical needle threads. One end of the hollow cylinder is joined directly or indirectly to the thread section. The free end not joined to the thread section points away from the thread section and leads into a sloping edge (10). The point of the surgical needle protrudes out of the hollow cylinder free end to form a smooth transition surface together with the sloping edge. The thread section second end has a top fastening part (3) consisting of a tube (15) into which the hollow cylinder fits. The top and lower fastening parts are joined by at least one lug (23) fitting into a recess (11).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 230 words
Thread for making a surgical suture, comprising: a) a thread portion (1), which is formed from a flexible material and has a first end and a second end, b) a lower closure part (2) on the first end of the thread portion (1), which has a cylinder (5), which is indirectly or directly connected to the thread portion (1) via one of its ends, and the free end of which cylinder, not connected to the thread portion (1), points away from the thread portion (1), and extends at its free end into a sloping edge (10), c) an upper closure part (3) on the second end of the thread portion (1), which comprises a tubular part (15), into which the cylinder (5) is insertable, and d) means (11, 23), whereby the upper closure part (3) can lock with the lower closure part (2), characterised in that e) the cylinder (5) is a hollow cylinder with a through-bore (7), the bore (7) of the hollow cylinder (5) being configured in such a manner that a surgical needle (120) is insertable, so that the point (121) of the surgical needle protrudes from the free end of the hollow cylinder (5) and forms, together with the sloping edge (10), a smooth transitional surface, and f) the tubular part (15) of the upper closure part (3) is in the form of a square tube.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 78 words
Thread according to claim 1 having the lower closure part (2), wherein the hollow cylinder (5) is raised on a discontinuous plate (4), which is connected to the thread portion (1) and has a frustoconical, through-bore (8) provided with a smaller opening and a larger opening, the smaller opening of which faces the hollow cylinder (5) and is in alignment with the bore (7) thereof, and the greater opening of which is remote from the hollow cylinder (5).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 56 words
Thread according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the means, whereby the upper closure part (3) can lock with the lower closure part (2), comprise at least one projection (23) in the interior of the tubular part and at least one recess (11) on the hollow cylinder (5), the projection (23) engaging in the recess (11).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 52 words
Combination, comprising a transfer holder (30) for handling purposes and the thread according to one of claims 1 to 3, with the transfer holder comprising a) a bifurcated head (31a), which has recesses (32) for accommodating both the lower closure part (2) and the upper closure part (3), and b) a handle.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 223 words
Combination, comprising a surgical suturing instrument for making a surgical suture and the thread according to one of claims 1 to 3, the surgical suturing instrument comprising a) an applicator shaft (40), which has a distal end, which is to be inserted into the body of a patient, and a proximal end, and comprises an inner shaft part (42) and an outer shaft tube (41) which is axially displaceable relative to the internal shaft part (42), b) two jaws (102, 103) on the distal end of the applicator shaft (40), which jaws are situated opposite each other and can be moved towards each other and away from each other, c) a multi-part gripping part (52, 53) on the proximal end of the applicator shaft (40) for actuating the jaws (102, 103), one part (52) of which is connected to the internal shaft part (42), and an additional part (53) is connected to the outer shaft tube (41), d) the jaws (102, 103) being formed from a resilient material and assuming, without the action of force, a V-shaped position relative to each other, and e) one of the two jaws (102) being provided at its distal end with a needle (120), which extends into a point (121), and the maximum length of which corresponds to the internal diameter of the outer shaft tube (41).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 62 words
Combination according to claim 5, having means which render possible a distal advancing movement of the jaw (102), which is provided with the needle (120), relative to the jaw (103), which is situated opposite thereto, and/or a proximal withdrawing movement of the jaw (103), which is not provided with the needle (120), relative to the jaw (102), which is situated opposite thereto.
