Abstract

Abstract In its tensioned state, the endoprosthesis (1) is inserted in a depression (14) in a flexible inner catheter (6) and fixed by a tubular outer catheter (3). The endoprosthesis (1) is released into a vessel by pushing the outer catheter (3) back over the depression (14). The depression (14) is formed by an intermediate piece (9) which connects a tip (7) with a pipe piece (10) of the inner catheter (6). In the region of the depression (14), the inner catheter can be designed to have a smaller outer diameter than hitherto while retaining at least the same flexibility and resistance to buckling. <IMAGE>

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
A device for implanting a self-expanding endoprothesis into a vessel comprising a flexible elongated external catheter (3) with a distal end (5) and a proximal end, and a flexible elongated internal catheter (6) arranged coaxially to the external catheter (3), said internal catheter having a point (7) at a distal end, and proximally to said point, a circumferential recess (14) for receiving the endoprosthesis, the external catheter (3) being movable in its longitudinal direction over the recess (14) in order to secure the endoprosthesis (1) and being retractable into the vessel (11) in order to release the endoprosthesis (1), characterised in that the recess (14) for receiving the endoprosthesis is formed by a separate intermediate piece (9,12) of the internal catheter (6).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 14 words
A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the intermediate piece is reinforced.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) is made of a composite material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9) is reinforced by means of fibres, more particularly glass fibres.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
A device according to claim 4, characterised in that the fibres are woven into a lattice in the form of a hose.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 22 words
A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) is made at least partly of metal.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 26 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) is substantially of the length of the recess (14).
Claim 8
Independent Claim 25 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) is in the form of a hollow cylinder.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 47 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) has an inner passage (8) with an internal diameter (E) which is smaller than the internal diameter (D) of a proximally adjoining tube section (10) of the internal catheter (6).
Claim 10
Independent Claim 42 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) has one end inserted into a recess (8a) of the point (7) and secured to said recess (8a), for example by means of adhesive (20).
Claim 11
Independent Claim 48 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) is inserted into a recess (10a) of a proximally adjoining tube section (10) of the internal catheter (6), and is secured to said recess (10a), for example by means of adhesive.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 59 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 11, characterised by two marking rings (21) placed on the intermediate piece (9,12) spaced from one another, said marking rings projecting radially from the outside of the intermediate piece (9,12) and securing an endoprosthesis (1) inserted into the recess (14) distally and proximally against a displacement in the longitudinal direction.
Claim 13
Independent Claim 43 words
A device according to one of claims 1 to 12, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) and a tube section (10) of the internal catheter (6), said tube section being connected proximally to the intermediate piece, are portions of separately produced tubes.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 38 words
A device according to claim 13, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) has an external diameter (F) of about 2.3 mm and that the tube section (10) connected proximally has an external diameter of about 4.5 mm.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 39 words
A device according to claim 13 or 14, characterised in that the intermediate piece (9,12) has an internal diameter (E) of about 1.6 mm and the proximally adjoining tube section (10) has an internal diameter of about 1.8 mm.
Claim 16
Independent Claim 27 words
A device according to one of claims 13 to 15, characterised in that the tube section (10) connected proximally and/or the point (7) are made of polyurethane.
