Abstract

Abstract To avoid inadvertent uncoupling of a Monorail catheter (10) from its guidewire (22), the guidewire eye (20) or port is identified by a radiopaque marker (28) so that the surgeon can perceive the location of the distal end (14) of the guidewire (22) relative to the catheter's guidewire port (20) on a fluoroscope screen.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 84 words
An intravascular catheter (10) of the type comprising an elongated, flexible, plastic, tubular member (11) having a proximal end (12), a distal end (14) and at least one lumen (16) extending between said proximal end (12) and said distal end (14) with a guidewire eye (20) located a predetermined distance proximal of said distal end (14) and adapted to receive a guidewire (22) therethrough, the improvement comprising: a radiopaque marker (28) identifying the location of said guidewire eye (20) on said tubular member (11).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 84 words
An intravascular catheter (10) of the type comprising an elongated, flexible, plastic, tubular member (11) having a proximal end (12), a distal end (14) and at least one lumen (16) extending between said proximal end (12) and said distal end (14) with a guidewire eye (20) located a predetermined distance proximal of said distal end (14) and adapted to receive a guidewire (22) therethrough, the improvement comprising: a radiopaque marker (28) identifying the location of said guidewire eye (20) on said tubular member (11).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
The intravascular catheter (10) as in Claim 1 wherein said radiopaque marker (28) comprises a metal band surrounding said tubular member (11) at said guidewire eye (20).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 80 words
An intravascular catheter (10) of the type comprising a first elongated, flexible, plastic tubular member (11) having a proximal end (12), a distal end (14), a first and second lumen (16, 24) extending from said proximal end (12) to said distal end (14) a guidewire lumen (16) located in said first tubular member a short distance proximal of said distal end, the improvement comprising: radiopaque marker means (28) identifying the location of the proximal end of said guidewire lumen (16).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 80 words
An intravascular catheter (10) of the type comprising a first elongated, flexible, plastic tubular member (11) having a proximal end (12), a distal end (14), a first and second lumen (16, 24) extending from said proximal end (12) to said distal end (14) a guidewire lumen (16) located in said first tubular member a short distance proximal of said distal end, the improvement comprising: radiopaque marker means (28) identifying the location of the proximal end of said guidewire lumen (16).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 41 words
The intravascular catheter (10) as in Claim 3 wherein said radiopaque marker means (28) comprises a band of metal selected from the group including gold, tantalum, tungsten and titanium, said band surrounding said tubular member (11) at said guidewire eye (20).
