Abstract
Abstract A catheter for insertion into a body cavity, comprises a tubular shaft (2) formed with a passageway (6) extending longitudinally therethrough closed at one end and open at the opposite end, and a probe (10) removably received within the passageway through its open end. The probe including a temperature sensor (42) for sensing the temperature produced by a heating applicator (70) applied to an adjacent area of the body.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
62 words
A catheter for insertion into a body cavity, comprising: a tubular shaft formed with a passageway extending longitudinally therethrough closed at one end and open at the opposite end; and a probe removably received within said passageway through its open end; said probe including a sensor for sensing a condition produced by an applicator applied to an adjacent area of the body.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
36 words
The catheter according to Claim 1, wherein the applicator is a heating applicator, said sensor including a temperature sensing device for sensing the temperature of the body tissue adjacent to said cavity heated by said applicator.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
48 words
The catheter according to Claim 2, wherein the heating applicator includes a microwave antenna producing an electromagnetic field for heating the body tissue adjacent to said body cavity; said sensor including an electromagnetic field detector for detecting the peak of the electromagnetic field produced by said applicator antenna.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
48 words
The catheter according to Claim 3, wherein the electrical conductors to said temperature sensor and microwave antenna are disposed in said probe in the form of a spiral extending circumferentially of the catheter shaft so as not to substantially affect, or to be affected by, said electromagnetic field.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
30 words
The catheter according to any one of Claims 1-4, further including a balloon attached to said shaft and inflatable by a fluid for anchoring the shaft within the body cavity.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
18 words
The catheter according to Claim 5, wherein said balloon extends around the shaft adjacent to its closed end.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
47 words
The catheter according to any one of Claims 1-6, wherein the shaft is of a diameter for insertion into the urethra of the patient in order to properly locate an applicator inserted into the rectum of the patient for rendering a hyperthermia treatment of the patient's prostate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
26 words
The catheter according to Claim 7, wherein said shaft includes a second passageway for conducting a draining and/or irrigating liquid from or to the patient's bladder.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
40 words
The catheter according to Claim 8, wherein the two passageways are separated by a partition wall formed with a plurality of air openingss therethrough to thermally insulate the probe from the draining or irrigating liquid passing through said second passageway.
