Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 91 words
A cranial screw (10) having a hollow shank (12) which has a distal threaded portion (22) for screwing into a hole in the cranium (50), and a first drive head (16), characterized in that said screw (10) has a second drive head (14) separated by a frangible portion (18) from said first drive head (16), which frangible portion (18) breaks at a predetermined maximal torque, and said screw (10) is made of a material which will not show up on an X-ray or a magnetic resonance scan of the cranium (50).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 91 words
A cranial screw (10) having a hollow shank (12) which has a distal threaded portion (22) for screwing into a hole in the cranium (50), and a first drive head (16), characterized in that said screw (10) has a second drive head (14) separated by a frangible portion (18) from said first drive head (16), which frangible portion (18) breaks at a predetermined maximal torque, and said screw (10) is made of a material which will not show up on an X-ray or a magnetic resonance scan of the cranium (50).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said frangible portion (18) is made of a different material from the remainder of said screw (10).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said threaded portion (22) includes a self-tapping thread (24).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said distal tip (26) is chamfered for easy insertion.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 14 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said lumen is slightly tapered to facilitate molding.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said proximal portion (20) extends proximally from said insertion drive head (16) and is adapted for connection to equipment external to the cranium (50).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
The screw of Claim 6 wherein said extending proximal portion (20) end includes a standard luer lock connection (32).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 48 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein the distal portion (22) of said emergency removal drive head (14) is formed into a circular flange (28); and, further including washer (30) to provide a tight seal between said flange (28) and the cranium (50) when said screw (10) is tightened.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 31 words
The screw of Claim 1 wherein said distal portion (22) includes a first wall thickness and said frangible portion (18) includes a second wall thickness less than said first wall thickness.
