Abstract

Abstract A device for hyperthermia comprisinga first electrode adapted to be disposed in a tract organ of a living body anda second electrode adapted to be disposed on an outer circumference of the living body such that the second electrode is opposed to the first electrode so as to generate a spatially inhomogeneous electric field within the living body in cooperation with the first electrode so that a part of the living body near the first electrode may be heated more strongly than a part of the living body near the second electrodeserves for selectively heating a tumor or malignancy region at the deep inside of the living body by a noninvasive technique.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 94 words
A device for hyperthermia characterised by a first electrode adapted to be disposed in a tract organ of a living body; and a second electrode adapted to be disposed on an outer circumference of the living body such that the second electrode is opposite the first electrode so as to generate a spatially inhomogeneous electric field within the living body in cooperation with the first electrode so that a part of the living body near the first electrode may be heated more strongly than a part of the living body near the second electrode.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 94 words
A device for hyperthermia characterised by a first electrode adapted to be disposed in a tract organ of a living body; and a second electrode adapted to be disposed on an outer circumference of the living body such that the second electrode is opposite the first electrode so as to generate a spatially inhomogeneous electric field within the living body in cooperation with the first electrode so that a part of the living body near the first electrode may be heated more strongly than a part of the living body near the second electrode.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 56 words
A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the first electrode comprises an electrode element for producing the inhomogeneous high-frequency electric field cooperatively with the second electrode, a bag-like member made of a flexible film surrounding the electrode element, and means for introducing and discharging a cooling liquid into and out of the bag-like member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A device according to claim 2, characterised in that the bag-like member is large enough to contact an inner surface of the tract organ without being substantially expanded.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A device according to claim 2 or 3, characterised by a means for detecting temperature fixed on the outer surface of the flexible bag-like member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
A device according to claim 2, 3 or 4 characterised in that the film of the bag-like member is made of polymeric material.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A device according to claim 2, 3, 4 or 5 characterised in that the first electrode comprises a thin tube through which in use the cooling liquid is passed.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device according to claim 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 characterised in that the first electrode further comprises means for detecting temperature at the outer surface of the bag-like member.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 21 words
A device according to any preceding claim characterised in that the second electrode is in the form of a hollow cylinder.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 25 words
A device according to any one of claims 1 to 7 characterised in that the second electrode is in the form of a curved plate.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 50 words
The device according to any one of claims 1 to 7 characterised in that the second electrode comprises a second electrode element made of a flexible plate-like member, and a passage means for circulating a cooling liquid, the passage means being disposed on a surface of the flexible plate-like member.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device according to claim 10, characterised in that the second electrode includes a flexible bag-like member surrounding the second electrode element and the pipe, the bag-like member accommodating a liquid.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 69 words
An endotract electrode for use in a device for high-frequency hyperthermia, the electrode being adapted to be disposed in a tract organ and being characterised by an electrode element for producing a spatially inhomogeneous high-frequency electric field, a bag-like member made of a thin film and surrounding the electrode element, and means for introducing and discharging a cooling liquid into and out of the inside of the bag-like member.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 69 words
An endotract electrode for use in a device for high-frequency hyperthermia, the electrode being adapted to be disposed in a tract organ and being characterised by an electrode element for producing a spatially inhomogeneous high-frequency electric field, a bag-like member made of a thin film and surrounding the electrode element, and means for introducing and discharging a cooling liquid into and out of the inside of the bag-like member.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 28 words
The endotract electrode according to claim 12, characterised in that the electrode further comprises means for detecting temperature fixed on the outer surface of the flexible bag-like member.
