Bone implant with polycrystalline sintered ceramic core - has ceramic outer element with small perforations for penetration of new tissue
Abstract
Abstract Ceramic bone implant comprises a composite structural element consisting of a core (2) comprising a polycrystalline sintered body mode from monocrystalline ceramic material formed from ceramic material of close texture, and a ceramic outer element (1) which allows penetration of new bone tissue and connecting tissue. The outer element has microholes allowing penetration of new bone tissue of connecting tissue, or is provided with a material which is biodegradable by the new tissue, with the pores or the biodegradable material distributed over the area extending from the surface of the outer element in contact witht he bone tissue to deep within the wall thickness of the outer element. The implant is suitable for dental treatment, and surgical orthopaedic treatment e.g. for a broken bone.
