Automatic feed programmer for medicinal infusions - is manually preset to give variable feed rates e.g. of insulin
Abstract
Abstract A device for supplying liquids to the human body or to animals comprises a storage vessel, electrically driven pump and infusion line. An electrical programmer, with manual presetting, is used for regulating the feed rate. The programmer pref. comprises a number of inputs (I) for different signals, a control signal output and a timer which is preset to connect the output to various inputs at different times. Pref. the timer and a distributor are connected between the output and inputs (I); inputs (II) of the timer which can be connected to the output can be manually connected in succession by the distributor to the inputs (I). Used for programming infusions to give a varying feed rate, without the need for repeated manual adjustment. A typical example is insulin infusion, where high rates are required at meal times during the day, lower rates at other times esp. at night.
