Device for the treatment of tumors
Abstract
Abstract Apparatus for UV (ultra-violet) treatment of a tumour 100 onto which titanium dioxide has been administered comprises; light source 1 (e.g. xenon lamp) emitting UV, visible and IR (infrared) which is focused through visible-light filter 4, which either removes or reduces visible-light, onto the receiving end 10a of optical fibre 10, by mirror 3 which does not reflect IR, thus removing the IR component. Light consisting of either solely UV or UV with a minority visible component passes through fibre 10 to tumour 100. The visible component enables simultaneous viewing of tumour 100 during UV treatment. Alternatively the apparatus may have interchangeable filters (Figure 6) enabling filter 4 to be interchanged with a UV filter allowing the apparatus to be used as a source of illumination for endoscope 20. Alternatively filter 4 can be replaced by a plane mirror (Figure 9) and/or an IR absorbing filter may be used in the path of the light beam (Figure 11). <IMAGE>
