Intravascular catheter and method for use thereof
Abstract
Abstract An intravascular catheter (10) and a method for use thereof, the catheter (10) comprising an elongate shaft (14) having an inflation lumen (32) connected with a dilation balloon (26). The catheter includes a small profile core wire (62) extending through the dilation balloon (26) and having a distal portion that extends distally of the balloon (26), and further in which the core wire (62) is movable relative to the elongate shaft (14) to allow withdrawal of the elongate shaft (14) and the balloon (26) while leaving the core wire (62) positioned intravascularly. The core wire (62) includes a tip member (76) connected to the distal end of the core wire (62) wherein the tip member (76) has a profile larger than the catheter distal opening (72). Also, a manifold (208) is provided to form both a fluid seal around a guide wire (202) received in a port (302) and spatially fix the position of the guide wire (202) in the manifold (208).
