Abstract

Abstract Disclosed is a surgical instrument designed for cutting or gripping, the instrument having a tubular body (2) the rear end of which is joined to an end-piece (1). On the end-piece (1) is a handle (4) with an actuator lever (5). Fitted at the front end of the tubular body (2) are two pivoting jaw arms (9, 10) forming a gripper. Extending from the end-piece (1) to the jaw arms (9, 10) is a force-transmission device designed to open or close the jaw arms. The handle (4) on the end-piece (1) can rotate about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the tubular body (2). When the handle (4) is turned, the force-transmission device (22, 23) pivots the jaw arms (9, 10) together in the same direction. This enables operations to be carried out to one side of the incision through which the tubular body (2) has been inserted.
