Method and apparatus for storing, transmitting and retrieving graphical and tabular data

The method of claim 1 comprising the additional steps of selecting tabular data respond to said graphical and tabular data command and displaying said tabular data on said display.

The method of claim 1 wherein said local station is a terminal.

The method of claim 1 wherein said local station is a computer.

The method of claim 1 wherein said locally stored database is stored on a write once read many CD-WORM.

The method of claim 1 wherein said locally stored database is stored on a hard disk drive.

The method of claim 1 wherein said host computer contains at least a 16 bit microprocessor.

The method of claim 1 wherein said host computer contains at least a 8 bit microprocessor.

The method of claim 1 wherein said display displays said tabular data while said graphical data is being retrieved from said locally stored graphics database.

Claim 11

Apparatus for controlling the storing and retrieving graphical and tabular data comprising: local computer means having display means, said local computer storing a program containing a plurality of presentation components said local computer means further containing a graphical user interface means for processing graphical data for display on said display means; selection means in communication with said computer to select a particular presentation component to be transmitted to host computer means; transmission means for transmitting said selected presentation component to said host computer means, said host computer means containing a control program for selecting graphical relationship database and tabular database commands which match said selected presentation component, said host computer means transmitting said commands by said transmission means to said local computer means wherein said command are displayed on said graphical user interface; and graphical relationship database means for storing graphical data and for transmitting graphical data responsive to said command directly to said display means in response to a command from said graphical user interface (GUI) to be displayed with said tabular data.

Claim 12

Apparatus for controlling the storing and retrieving graphical and tabular data comprising: local computer means having display means, said local computer storing a program containing a plurality of presentation components said local computer means further containing a graphical user interface means for processing graphical data for display on said display means; selection means in communication with said computer to select a particular presentation component to be transmitted to host computer means; transmission means for transmitting said selected presentation component to said host computer means, said host computer means containing a control program for selecting graphical relationship database and tabular database commands which match said selected presentation component, said host computer means transmitting said commands by said transmission means to said local computer means wherein said command are displayed on said graphical user interface; and graphical relationship database means for storing graphical data and for transmitting graphical data responsive to said command directly to said display means in response to a command from said graphical user interface (GUI) to be displayed with said tabular data.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said graphical relationship database comprises write once read many (WORM) means.

The apparatus of claim 10 further comprising means for updating or extending said graphical relationship database.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said transmission means includes a modem.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said transmission means further comprises telephone transmission lines.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said transmission means comprises a local area network.

The apparatus of claim 15 wherein said local area network is linked by a fiber optic transmission system.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said graphical user interface (GUI) comprises a computer program stored in said local computer.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said host computer means matches the capacity of said local computer means.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said selection means comprises raster vector attribute database (RVAD) means.

The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said transmitted presentation component and transmitted graphical and tabular database commands are compressed.

The apparatus of claim 20 wherein said transmission means utilizes a broad band transmission system.

Claim 24

The apparatus of claim 21 wherein said broad band transmission system is a cellular communications system.

The apparatus of claim 22 wherein said transmission means further comprises conventional telephone lines.

Claim 26

Apparatus for storing and retrieving graphical and tabular data comprising: local computer means (CRT) cathode ray tube display means and storing a program containing a plurality of presentation options, said local computer further containing a graphical user interface (GUI) program; presentation selection means in communication with said program containing said presentation options for selecting a particular option to be transmitted to host computer means; transmission means for transmitting said selected option to said host computer means, said host computer means containing a control program which selects a graphical relationship database and tabular database commands which match said selected presentation option, said host computer means transmitting said database command by said transmission means to said local computer means wherein said command is displayed on said CRT display means by said graphical user interface; and graphical relationship database means for storing graphical data and for transmitting graphical data responsive to said command directly to said display means in response to a second command from said graphical user interface program.

Claim 27

Apparatus for storing and retrieving graphical and tabular data comprising: local computer means (CRT) cathode ray tube display means and storing a program containing a plurality of presentation options, said local computer further containing a graphical user interface (GUI) program; presentation selection means in communication with said program containing said presentation options for selecting a particular option to be transmitted to host computer means; transmission means for transmitting said selected option to said host computer means, said host computer means containing a control program which selects a graphical relationship database and tabular database commands which match said selected presentation option, said host computer means transmitting said database command by said transmission means to said local computer means wherein said command is displayed on said CRT display means by said graphical user interface; and graphical relationship database means for storing graphical data and for transmitting graphical data responsive to said command directly to said display means in response to a second command from said graphical user interface program.

The apparatus of claim 24 wherein said presentation selection means comprises a keyboard.

The apparatus of claim 24 wherein said presentation selection means comprises a mouse.

The apparatus of claim 24 wherein said graphical relationship database comprises write once read many (WORM) means.

The apparatus of claim 24 wherein said transmission means transmits said selected option at a rate of around 10,000 baud or less.
