Abstract

Abstract Weather resistance and lubricity of a magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support having provided thereon a vapor deposited magnetic thin film mainly composed of cobalt, nickel and oxygen can be improved by limiting the amount of nickel and the number of oxygen atoms to a specific value and by providing a plasma polymerized layer on the magnetic thin film.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 130 words
In a magnetic recording medium exhibiting improved weather resistance and lubricity comprising a non-magnetic support base having provided thereon a vapor deposited magnetic thin film containing cobalt, nickel and oxygen and a plasma polymerized layer provided on the magnetic thin film, the improvement wherein the nickel is present in an amount of 1 to 10 wt. % based on the total amount of cobalt and nickel, and the number of oxygen atoms in the magnetic thin film is 5 to 45% based on the total number of cobalt and nickel atoms, wherein the plasma polymerized layer is present in a thickness in the range of 20 to 800 angstroms wherein the vapor deposited magnetic thin film is present in a thickness in the range of 0.02 μm to 4 μm.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 130 words
