Abstract
Abstract A blowing agent composition is provided comprising: (a) zinc formate, and (b) a compound having the formula M m X, wherein M is sodium or potassium; X is chlorine, bromine, iodine, CO 3 , HCO 3 , SO 4 , SO 3 , S 2 O 3 , NO 2 , SCN, OCN, BO 2 , HBO 3 , HPO 4 , PO 4 or H 2 PO 4 , and m is an integer representing the valence of X; or a compound having the formula M n 1 R p , wherein M 1 is alkali metal, calcium, lead or zinc, R is organic mono- or polybasic acid having 1-18 carbon atoms and from 0 to 2 nitrogen atoms, or a benzenesulfonyl or toluenesulfonyl radical; and n and p are integers representing the valences of R and M 1 , respectively or whole fractions thereof.

A method for making a foamed polymer composition comprising blending said polymer composition with the blowing agent composition of claim 1 and exposing the resultant mixture to heat in order to foam the polymer composition.
