Abstract

Abstract The invention provides a method of treatment of the human or animal body comprising the application of an aqueous solution containing a compound of formula I ##STR1## [wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a group of formula II ##STR2## in which R 1 is as defined above] to human or animal tissue subjected to surgical treatment whereby the incidence of adhesion formation is eliminated or substantially reduced or whereby existing adhesions are at least substantially detached or unblocked. There is also provided a solution for use in the above method.

A method of treatment of a human or animal in need of said treatment comprising the application of an aqueous solution containing a compound of formula I ##STR5## wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of formula II ##STR6## in which R 1 is as defined above to human or animal tissue subjected to surgical treatment where no bacterial infection is present whereby the incidence of adhesion formation is eliminated or substantially reduced or whereby existing adhesions are at least substantially detached or unblocked.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 94 words
A method of treatment of a human or animal in need of said treatment comprising the application of an aqueous solution containing a compound of formula I ##STR5## wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of formula II ##STR6## in which R 1 is as defined above to human or animal tissue subjected to surgical treatment where no bacterial infection is present whereby the incidence of adhesion formation is eliminated or substantially reduced or whereby existing adhesions are at least substantially detached or unblocked.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said application is effected for at least part of the time from shortly before to shortly after the said surgical treatment.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the concentration of the said compound of formula I in the said aqueous solution is from 0.5 to 5% by weight.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 21 words

Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
A method as claimed in claim 4 wherein the dosage of bis-(1,1-dioxo-perhydro-1,2,4-thiadiazin-4-yl)-methane is from 2 to 20 g per day for an adult human.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said aqueous solution further contains polyvinylpyrrolidone.

Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said solution is applied by instillation or by infusion.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said surgical treatment involves surgery of the peritoneum, the heart or the fallopian tube.
Claim 13
Independent Claim 76 words
A method of treatment of a human or animal in need of said treatment comprising the application of an aqueous solution containing a compound of formula I ##STR7## wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of formula II ##STR8## in which R 1 is as defined above to human or animal tissue subjected to surgical treatment whereby existing adhesions are at least substantially detached or unblocked.
Claim 14
Independent Claim 76 words
A method of treatment of a human or animal in need of said treatment comprising the application of an aqueous solution containing a compound of formula I ##STR7## wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of formula II ##STR8## in which R 1 is as defined above to human or animal tissue subjected to surgical treatment whereby existing adhesions are at least substantially detached or unblocked.
