Abstract
Abstract A polymer composition containing a physiologically active substance and being capable of releasing it at a controlled rate can be prepared by contacting 10 parts, by weight, of one or more polymerizable monomers and 0.1 to 30 parts, by weight, of one or more physiologically active substances and irradiating them with light or an ionizing radiation while maintaining the system in an anhydrous condition and in airless state.

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
89 words
A process for preparing a polymer composition containing a physiologically active substance which is released at a controlled rate, said process comprising contacting 10 parts, by weight, of at least one polymerizable monomer and 0.1 to 3 parts, by weight, of at least one physiologically active substance and irradiating them with light or an ionizing radiation while maintaining the system in an anhydrous condition and in an airless state such that in the produced polymer composition the physiologically active substance is capable of being released at a controlled rate.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
27 words
The process as set forth in claim 1 in which said contact is effected in the presence of 0.1 to 10 parts, by weight, of inert solvent.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
The process as set forth in claim 1 or 2 in which said airless state is a vacuum below 10 -2 mmHg.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
30 words
The process as set forth in claim 1 or 2 in which said ionizing radiation is γ ray from 60 Co or 137 Cs or β ray from 90 Sr.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
27 words
The process as set forth in claim 1 wherein the controlled rate of release of the physiologically active substance is substantially uniform over a period of time.
