Abstract

Abstract Novel pressure fixable direct imaging magnetic toners having a core of magnetic material held together with an adhesive resin, a barrier substantially covering the core, an overcoat of thermoplastic strengthening resin, and an outer conductive layer, together with novel processes for producing such toners, these processes comprising dispersion of the core material followed by agglomeration of the several layers in a single aqueous medium.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 60 words
A direct imaging, pressure fixable particulate magnetic toner, the particles of which successively comprise a core of magnetic material and a pressure-sensitive resin, a substantially continuous barrier coat which encloses and shields the core from the remainder of the particle, a pressure friable resin overcoating said barrier coat and providing strength to the particles, and an electrically conductive outer layer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 60 words
A direct imaging, pressure fixable particulate magnetic toner, the particles of which successively comprise a core of magnetic material and a pressure-sensitive resin, a substantially continuous barrier coat which encloses and shields the core from the remainder of the particle, a pressure friable resin overcoating said barrier coat and providing strength to the particles, and an electrically conductive outer layer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A toner according to claim 1 wherein the outer layer has a conductivity of from 10 -2 to 10 -10 mho/centimeter.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 12 words
A toner according to claim 1 wherein the magnetic material is magnetite.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
A toner according to claim 1 wherein the particle size is from 3 to 35 micrometers.
