Abstract

Abstract A flexural mode tuning fork quartz crystal vibrator having two vibrator tines including first and second opposed substantially planar surfaces, the thickness of the plate between said opposed surfaces being no greater than 0.2 mm is provided. Both surfaces of each tine have three electrodes photo-etched on at least the lengthwise peripheral sides of the respective surfaces of the tines and a third electrode photo-etched intermediate and not in contact with the two peripherally disposed electrodes with each intermediate electrode being short-circuited to the peripheral electrode on the other tine. A fourth electrode is disposed on at least one lengthwise side edge of both of the respective tines, the fourth electrode electrically coupling the peripherally disposed electrode on the lengthwise peripheral sides of the respective surfaces of the tine.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 122 words
A quartz crystal vibrator comprising a quartz crystal plate defining a tuning fork having two vibratory tines including first and second opposed substantially planar surfaces, both said surfaces of each tine having three electrodes disposed thereon, two of said electrodes being disposed on at least the lengthwise peripheral sides of said respective surfaces of said tines, said third electrodes being disposed intermediate and not in contact with said two peripherally disposed electrodes, each said intermediate electrode being short circuited to the peripheral electrode on the other tine, and fourth electrodes disposed on at least one lengthwise side edge portion of both of said respective tines, said fourth electrode electrically coupling said peripherally disposed electrodes on said opposed surfaces of said tine together.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 122 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 49 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 1, wherein said tuning fork vibrator includes a non-vibratory base portion, the portion of each said intermediate electrode being short circuited to the peripheral electrode on the other tine on both surfaces being formed on said base portion of said vibrator.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 2, and including first and second resilient conductive leads, each said lead being physically secured to the respective intermediate electrode portions disposed on one of said surfaces to thereby electrically couple the electrodes on both surfaces of said vibrator to said resilient leads.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 3, wherein each of said electrodes is deposited on both of said surfaces of said vibrator and on said side edges of the respective tines of said vibrator.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 1, wherein said plate has a thickness between said opposed planar surfaces no greater than 0.2 mm.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 5, wherein each of said electrodes is deposited on one of the opposed planar surfaces and portion of said side edge of the vibrator plate.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 33 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said electrodes is deposited on one of the opposed planar surfaces and portion of said side edge of the vibrator plate.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 45 words
A quartz crystal vibrator as claimed in claim 4, wherein said quartz crystal plate is formed by rotating an X-cut plate around the X-axis by 0° to 10° and further rotating the plate around the Y' axis by 70° to 90° or -70° to -90°.
