Claim 1
Independent Claim
78 words
A process for perforating a multilayered artificial leather product by the energy beam emitted from a beam source, said leather product having a top layer formed of an essentially impervious material joined to a pervious support layer, said process comprising the steps of: orienting the leather product so that the support layer is toward the beam source; and applying the energy beam to the support layer to completely perforate the support layer and to perforate the impervious layer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
47 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the perforating characteristics of the energy beam are controllable and the process is further defined as controlling the energy beam characteristics so that the perforation openings produced on the exterior of the impervious layer do not exceed a predetermined dimension.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
37 words
The process according to claim 2 wherein the applying step is further defined as applying the energy beam to the support layer for forming truncated conical holes which become narrow toward the exterior of the impervious layer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
51 words
The process according to claim 3 wherein the energy beam is conical and wherein the applying step is further defined as applying a conical energy beam to the support layer to perforate the support layer and the impervious layer with holes which become narrow toward the exterior of the impervious layer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
26 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the step of applying the energy beam if further defined as applying an electron beam to the support layer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
37 words
The process according to claim 5 wherein the applying step is further defined as applying the electron beam to the support layer for forming truncated conical holes which become narrow toward the exterior of the impervious layer.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
31 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the pervious support layer is formed of cloth and the process is further defined as applying the energy beam to the cloth support layer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the support layer comprises fleece and the process is further defined as applying the energy beam to the fleece support layer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
60 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein the artificial leather product has a portion in which the top layer is of increased thickness and wherein the perforating characteristic of the energy beam are controllable and the process is further defined as controlling the energy beam characteristics for perforating the thin portion of the top layer but not the thickened portion.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
74 words
An artificial leather product comprising a first layer formed of an essentially impervious material joined to a second, support layer formed of a pervious material, said layers containing perforations extending through the layers of the product for rendering the product more similar to natural leather, said perforations being shaped as smooth truncated cones extending completely through the support layer and tapering toward openings of predetermined dimensions on the exterior surface of said first layer.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
74 words
An artificial leather product comprising a first layer formed of an essentially impervious material joined to a second, support layer formed of a pervious material, said layers containing perforations extending through the layers of the product for rendering the product more similar to natural leather, said perforations being shaped as smooth truncated cones extending completely through the support layer and tapering toward openings of predetermined dimensions on the exterior surface of said first layer.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
33 words
The artificial leather product according to claim 10 wherein said first layer has a portion of increased thickness and wherein said perforations do not extend through the thickened portion of said first layer.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
13 words
The artificial leatherproduct according to claim 10 wherein said support layer comprises cloth.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
15 words
The artificial leather product according to claim 10 wherein said second, support layer, comprises fleece.
