Abstract
Abstract Apparatus is disclosed for examining a body by means of radiation such as X or Y radiation. The body to be examined is inserted in an aperture in a scanning and locating structure, which structure supports a source of the readiation and detector means therefor on opposite sides of the aperture. The source and detector means are moveable to and fro on the structure so as to scan the radiation laterally across the body in a plane and the structure is rotatable around the body about an axis perpendicular to the plane. Disposed between the source and detector means is an attenuator means which extends laterally in said plane to the full extent of the lateral scanning motion and rotates with the structure.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
188 words
Apparatus for examining a body by means of penetrating radiation such as X- or gamma - radiation including a scanning and locating structure formed with an aperture adapted to receive said body, source means, mounted on said scanning and locating structure, adapted to produce at least one beam of radiation, detector means responsive to said beam of radiations mounted on said scanning and locating structure, the source means and the detector means being arranged to face each other across said aperture, means for causing the scanning and locating structure to move relative to the body so that the source means and the detector means orbit around the body in a plane which defines a plane of interest in the body, means for causing said beam to effect a reciprocable lateral scanning movement in said plane relative to said structure, so as to scan said aperture, said scanning and locating structure including attenuator means positioned between said source means and said detector means and extending laterally in said plane to the extent of said aperture, said attenuator means being arranged to orbit with said source means and detector means.

Claim 4
Dependent Claim
53 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said attenuator means is positioned to be traversed by said beam in all positions in which said beam traverses said aperture and arranged to orbit with said source means and said detector means so as to present the same profile to the beam in all orbital positions.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
