Abstract

Abstract This specification discloses steel building components, such as hollow thin-wall studding and corrugated steel sheet, having novel means integrally formed therewith by which wall and floor surface elements such as plaster, cement and concrete, may be attached to the components. Several forms of attachment means are disclosed. One form comprises an anchoring loop formed by raising a narrow strip between two slits in the sheet steel forming the studding or corrugated steel sheet. Another form is a combination of the loop and a locking prong in line therewith, the loop serving to support a reinforcing element, such as metal lath, in spaced relation to the studding or to the corrugated steel sheet and the prong serving to lock the metal lath to the raised loop. Another form comprises an inverted T-shaped tab, struck from the metal sheet and bent normal thereto. The base of the tab serves to support metal lath in spaced relation to the steel studding or to the corrugated steel sheet and the end portion of the tab is bendable to lock the metal lath to the base of the tab. Rolling apparatus and a method for forming the steel studding and the various attachment means is also disclosed.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 124 words
Rolling apparatus by which to form integral wall attachment means in steel studding of the hollow thin wall type, said apparatus comprising: a. a pair of oppositely rotating rolls supported in parallel relation and spaced so as to accomodate the gauge of the steel sheet moving therebetween, one of the rolls having a circumferential groove therein and the other roll having therein a plurality of pairs of closely spaced teeth arranged circumferentially so as to register with the said groove in the said one roll, and b. an anvil stationarily supported in advance of said rolls and having an open-end slot for receiving the trailing tooth of each of said pairs while the leading tooth of the same pair is within the said groove.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 124 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 79 words
Rolling apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the leading tooth of each pair of teeth slits the sheet in two parallel lines and deforms the intervening strip of sheet radially outward, and wherein the trailing tooth of each pair of teeth is of greater height than said leading tooth and thus in cooperation with the open slot in said anvil slits the sheet in two parallel lines and severs the trailing end of the strip intervening between said slits.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
Rolling apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the leading edge of the trailing tooth of each pair is curved so as to form a curved radially projecting prong out of the strip intervening between said slits.
